Animal Science
Scouts will learn about
the beef cattle industry
and will have the
opportunity to take a
tour of a working cattle
ranch.
Horsemanship
Scouts will learn how to care for and feed horses, about horse health,
different types of riding, caring for tack, and most importantly, how to
ride. Scouts must be 13 years old to participate in this program. All
scouts are required to bring long pants and boots with a heel in them
to be able to participate. Evening rides are available during twilight
on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday for scouts and leaders who are not
taking the merit badge. Scouts and Leaders are required to wear long
pants and boots with heels in them for riding.
Dutch Oven Cooking
This is not a merit
badge. Scouts will learn
how to properly cook
with and care for a
Dutch Oven.
Leatherwork
In this badge scouts will
be making a knife pouch
and dyeing a belt. There
will be a materials cost of
about $6.
Metal Work
Scouts will be learning about metal
work and earning their merit badge in
our new blacksmith shop. There will
be a materials cost of about $10 for
this badge. Scouts will need to wear
long pants and a long sleeve shirt.
Scouts must be 14 years old to take
this merit badge.
Wood Carving
This merit badge is not appropriate for
first year campers. Scouts must be at
least 12 years of age and have previosly
earned their totin chip. Scouts need
to be accompanied to class by an adult
leader on the third and fourth day of
instruction. There will be a materials
cost of about $7.
